Program Description
Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, offers comprehensive health care services for women of all ages.
For decades, Rush has been a leader in women’s health. Rush created the region’s first comprehensive breast center. We are also home to Chicago’s longest running in vitro fertilization (IVF) program, where couples facing infertility have found hope for more than 20 years.
Since Rush is an academic medical center, we offer state-of-the-art services informed by top-notch research. This approach has helped us:
- Pioneer new approaches to treat breast and gynecological cancers
- Evaluate the physical, biological, psychological and social changes experienced by women before, during and after menopause
- Tailor cardiac care to the unique needs of women
- Safeguard female athletes and weekend warriors from sports-related injuries
Services Provided
- Breast Health
At the Rush Breast Imaging Center, our full-time radiologists are dedicated breast imagers with special expertise in reading mammograms. Along with a team of top-notch breast imaging technologists and support staff, they work to ensure that women get timely appointments and timely results, in a comfortable setting.
- Breast Cancer Care
Should a mammogram indicate a problem, Rush patients can take advantage of the services of one of the city’s leading breast cancer teams. The Comprehensive Breast Center has pioneered research in breast cancer’s biomolecular origins — knowledge that has led to more treatment options than ever before.
- Heart and Cardiovascular Care
The Heart Center for Women is one of Chicago’s only heart program devoted exclusively to women.
- Marital and Sex Therapy
Rush offers marriage counseling, couple therapy and premarital counseling to improve communication, resolve conflicts and increase intimacy. Visit the Marital and Sex Therapy Program home page for more information.
- Neonatal Care
Services for expectant families include a full range of classes designed to help parents-to-be prepare for the birth of a new baby. Rush offers homelike settings for childbirth, as well as two operating rooms equipped for cesarean section births and for emergency procedures.
- Pelvic and Abdominal Health
An understanding of a woman’s unique physiology is especially helpful when treating bladder function loss, sexual dysfunction, constipation and other pelvic and abdominal disorders. At Rush’s abdominal and pelvic health program, a multidisciplinary team including colorectal surgeons, physiatrists, urogynecologists, gastroenterologists and psychologists collaborate to address the roots of such problems to provide the most appropriate and effective treatments.
- Sports Medicine
The Women’s Sports Medicine Program at Rush offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries dedicated to the needs of active women, both recreational and competitive athletes.
