Harrison St. Join us for a class offering support and information for adult stroke survivors and their families. A  support team of a physician, nurse, case manager, ethicist and spiritual care will provide education and coping techniques for the changes that occur after a stroke. Free parking and light refreshments provided. Please call (800) 757-0202 for more information.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers
Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six-week educational workshop exclusively for family and friends caring for older adults with long-term conditions. Each weekly class provides family caregivers with the skills and confidence to better care for themselves while caring for others. Many caregivers have found the class beneficial, including those caring for a spouse or partner and adult family members or friends caring for an elder.

Class participants report they:

  • Are better at caring for themselves
  • Have fewer feelings of anger, guilt and depression
  • Have increased confidence and ability to cope with the demands of caregiving
  • Take more advantage of community services

Class members will receive The Caregiver Helpbook, developed specifically for the class. Skills learned build upon each other from week to week, so attendance at all six sessions is required. Classes are offered several times throughout the year from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at Rush University Medical Center, Johnston R. Bowman Center, 710 South Paulina Street, Chicago.

Class registration fee is $30. Limited scholarships are available. Rush University Medical Center parking is validated in full. Call (800) 757-0202 for more information.
