The Geriatric and Rehabilitation Psychology Service at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, provides assessment and treatment for two groups of patients:
- People over the age of 55
- People recovering from, or living with, residual effects of traumatic illness or injury, or chronic illness.
Patients may be seen on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Issues addressed include depression, anxiety, coping with illness or hospitalization, adjustment to loss, grief, changes in levels of independence and adherence to treatment.
Erin Emery, PhD, is director of the geriatric and rehabilitation psychology service. The service comprises psychologists (faculty members of Rush University and fellows) who specialize in health psychology, behavioral medicine, rehabilitation and aging. The staff works in conjunction with the multidisciplinary teams of the Johnston R. Bowman Health Center and the Center for Rehabilitation, located on Rush's Chicago campus.
