Clinical Services at Rush Behavioral Sciences Home
Program Description

The Department of Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, is home to the Rush Sleep Disorder Service and Research Center, the first such center in Illinois and the first to be accredited with the American Sleep Disorder Association.

Services Provided

Patient care services in behavioral sciences include:

  • Sleep disorder service, offering comprehensive evaluation and treatment for the more than 80 known sleep disorders.
  • Rehabilitation and geropsychology services. Issues addressed include depression, anxiety, coping with illness or hospitalization, adjustment to loss, grief, changes in levels of independence and adherence to treatment.
  • Ongoing research, including investigations on quality of life issues, circadian rhythms and insomnia, the function of dreaming, and psychogenic aspects of low-back pain. Clinical Team

Stevan Hobfoll, PhD, is chairperson of the Department of Behavioral Sciences. The department is the primary faculty home for behavioral scientists in Rush Medical College and in the hospital, where clinical members of the department hold staff appointments. : The Sleep Disorders Service and Research Center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, was the first such center in Illinois and the first to be accredited by the American Sleep Disorder Association. The center offers treatment for snoring, insomnia, daytime sleepiness and sleepwalking.
